Background: Circle for Integrated Community Development (CICOD) is a national non-profit making non-governmental organisation registered with Malawi government under Trustees Incorporation Act in 2004. CICOD was set up in 2002 by community development activists to empower local communities to determine their own development needs through active participation. CICOD’s head office is in Lilongwe with its impact areas in different districts. CICOD has 32 members of staff who are based at the head office in Lilongwe and in the district offices. These include District Coordinators, Community development facilitators and accountants.

Affiliation to Civil Society Networks: CICOD is a member of Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi (CONGOMA), Malawi NGO Board, Civil Society Education Coalition (CSECO), Malawi Economic Justice Network (MEJN), Malawi Health Equity Network (MHEN), Civil Society Agriculture Network (CISANET), Landnet Malawi, Civil Society Network on Climate Change (CISONECC), Water and Environmental Sanitation Network (WESN) and Malawi Reflect Forum (MAREFO).

Mission

CICOD exists ‘to empower the poor, vulnerable and marginalized communities to secure improved livelihoods, enhance environmental justice and good governance through advocating for enabling policies, service delivery, capacity building and community organization initiatives using rights based programming in an integrated manner’.
